Pearl Jam Show Notes 6/30/2022:

After a day of bad weather, the Beatles’ Rain opens the show, followed by I Believe in Miracles, the first time Pearl Jam has opened with 2 back-to-back covers since 1992! That’s followed by a very crowd-friendly singalong set, and Quick Escape returns to the setlist after not being played in Frankfurt. Whipping is played in place of I Got Shit, the recent Supreme Court decision no doubt on their minds, further evidenced by a lyric change in the Daughter tag, it’s “…Hey! Government! Leave our girls alone!” tonight. After Jeremy, Ed makes a speech about Roskilde, which happened 22 years ago on this day:

“It changed us forever…and we’ve never stopped thinking about it, and we’ve never stopped thinking about those families, that community, those communities that lost dear loved ones…we’ve been very fortunate to know some of those families, without that experience I don’t think we would have been able to do any kind of healing, and we’re so grateful to those people for letting us into their lives and letting us recognize and know the people who were lost so we could feel the loss and remember and celebrate…”

He continues, asking the crowd to light up their phones and have a moment of silence, followed immediately by Long Road. Somehow, after all that, there’s an issue in the crowd during Porch and the song is almost stopped, but they continue on. Another incredible, nearly 9-minute version of Black with a powerful, soaring McCready solo and a delicate We Belong Together tag. Rockin’ makes a now-rare appearance for the first time on this European tour, including an extended Stone solo, closing out the evening.

I was obsessed with Pearl Jam in the early 90's, and then became a collector of their live bootlegs in the 2000's. I’ve seen them 12 times in 8 different states. I’m continuously blown away by their ability to create transcendent moments in concert. I owe them for my love of vinyl, live music, and so much more. I’m happy to have the podcast and this website as an outlet for that obsession.
