2019 Pearl Jam Year In Review
Recap of Pearl Jam's 2019
Most of this year was spent in the studio recording and preparing for their 11th studio album Gigaton, to be released in early 2020.
Eddie Vedder would spend the summer of 2019 traveling Europe on a solo tour. There are a few notable moments from his trip. In Amsterdam, Ed was reunited with a woman named Valeska Custers. Valeska was a woman he met and received a bike ride from when the band played in Utrecht back in 1992. This story has been retold almost any time Pearl Jam returned to the Netherlands. In Düsseldorf, Ed performed the Chris Cornell song “Seasons” for the first time ever. He would also perform a pump organ song originally titled “Cross River” on three separate occasions, this song would later be known as “River Cross” and close out the Gigaton album.
At the beginning of December, a 14-date European tour was announced for summer of 2020 featuring stops in familiar spots such as Amsterdam, Berlin, the Rock Werchter festival in Belgium, and more. A show at the famous Hyde Park in London was scheduled with The Pixies, Idles and White Reaper set as supporting acts. These shows have since been rescheduled for 2022.
